I originally stumbled across Mystic Hot Springs on Instagram while searching for unique activities to do on our Southern Utah road trip. I was especially drawn to the vintage vibes and ability to social distance. The Utah hot springs are located about 4 hours from Las Vegas, and 2.5 hours from Zion. Visiting really does feel like stepping into an older and different world. If you’ve visited Salvation Mountain in California and loved it, this is along those lines.
About the Mystic Hot Springs
HISTORY: The hot springs opened in 1886 as the Monroe Hot Springs before later being renamed to Mystic Hot Springs. Over time, it has grown to also be known as a music venue. You can read the entire history here.
WATER: It flows at 200 gallons per minute and is 168F on average. The primary mineral in the water is calcium carbonate.
SUSTAINABILITY: The water is not only used for soaking, but it then gets repurposed to heat the building and grow vegetables. What is most unique is that the water never leaves the property!
Soaking Passes
Other than coming to soak in their hot springs, you can also book accommodations on the property (cabins, buses, etc.). As we were passing through, we decided on booking a soaking pass. A few details on how it works:
- Appointments are by reservation only (made on their website)
- The pass is for a 2 hour time slot
- Adults are $25, and children are $12.50
- There are bathrooms & showers on the property
Tips for Visiting the Utah Hot Springs
- Book the earliest appointment! This is especially important if you’re looking to have your pick of the baths for photos. We had to book a later appointment since we were coming from Nevada (which was still okay), but it’s nice to have the place to yourself.
- Don’t forget your towel & water-friendly flip flops. The flip flops are especially important for walking between the pools and for the shower since you’ll likely want to rinse with cold water.
- This spot feels untouched by time. Okay, so this isn’t really a tip as much as a disclaimer. If you’re looking for a 5 star spa, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for something with character that’s an experience, Mystic Hot Springs is perfect.
- Stop for lunch at Phil My Taco after your soak. We were starving and decided to stop at this restaurant located inside a grocery store. They had pizza, American food, and Mexican food. It was so delicious and a must!
