On a cold and cozy day ramen is often my go-to. Something about slurping a steaming bowl of noodles is just so comforting! Keep reading for 5 of my favorite ramen spots in San Diego. Each of these spots
San Diego Ramen Spot #1: HiroNori Craft Ramen
I first came across HiroNori in Northern California and immediately fell in love with their modern take on ramen. While you’re there, make sure you try the crispy chicken, it’s one of the best I’ve ever tried.
- Neighborhood: Hillcrest (5 other locations around California)
- What we ordered: Shoyu Ramen, crispy chicken
San Diego Ramen Spot #2: Harumama
Harumana might win as the most Instagrammable noodle spot in San Diego. Their character buns are almost too cute to eat! They also have a wide menu of items if you’re not in the ramen mood.
- Neighborhood: La Jolla (other locations include Little Italy & Carlsbad)
- What we ordered: Flying pig ramen, Haru ramen, pork character steamed buns
- Pro tip: check out their seasonal buns as they change quite often!
San Diego Ramen Spot #3 Underbelly
Underbelly is one of those classic spots when you want a good bowl of ramen and ambiance. I personally like the North Park location for date night. Meanwhile, the Little Italy location has major Japanese vibes!
- Neighborhood: North Park (other location in Little Italy)
- What we ordered: Tonkotsu Ramen, Belly of the Beast Ramen
- Pro Tip: Underbelly’s cocktails are reasonably priced (~$10) and delicious.
San Diego Ramen Spot #4: Hokkaido Ramen Santouka (Mitsuwa Market)
Located in the Mitsuwa Market, Santouka might seem like your run of the mill ramen shop. However, what you might not know is that it is actually internationally known! This is a must-have if you’re looking for authentic dishes at reasonable prices.
- Neighborhood: Convoy (multiple locations internationally)
- What we ordered: Miso ramen, Spicy Miso ramen, flaked salmon with fish eggs
- Pro Tip: If you’re someone with a smaller appetite like me, opt for the small bowl. It’s surprisingly filling!
San Diego Ramen Spot #5: Tajima Ramen & Izakaya Bar
Last up we have Tajima, With various locations across the city, this is always a solid choice for a good bowl of ramen. Their broths pack a punch (especially the spicy sesame). Tajima also has plenty of vegan and vegetarian options that are delicious.
- Neighborhood: East Village (5+ other locations including Convoy, Hillcrest)
- What we ordered: Tajima Ramen, Spicy Sesame Ramen
