Summer boots were introduced to me at Coachella. It was 100 degrees and people were walking around in BOOTS. And I soon learned why – a sandal isn’t good for getting trampled on. So while they started more out of necessity, the trend started to grow on me. Since then, I’ve seen everyone from celebrities to bloggers wearing boots in the summer. The no boots in summer rule is grouped in there with the “no white after Labor Day rule.” (Hint: that rule is dead) I’m not complaining because let’s be real, there’s nothing better than being able to use more shoes from your closet! So, how can you rock this look?
1 ) You need to have that summer party happening upstairs
Boots traditionally scream fall/winter. That means if you want to summer-fy it, you need to make sure that the rest of your look has some summer essentials. Some of my favorite elements to bring in?
- Florals
- Bright colors
- Light & airy fabrics
2 ) Use your boots to dress up a casual evening or afternoon look
I wore this look to an afternoon restaurant launch. I could have worn a slide or sandal, but the boots definitely dress it up. Think: effortless chic. They’re perfect if you’re heading to dinner or on a date on a summer night. They might be a bit too hot if you’re like me and your summer days consist of 85+ degrees. But when the temperature drops, they would be perfect.
3) Replace the sneaker on your summer travels
A sneaker is a must have on every trip – don’t worry I’m not trying to talk you out of that fact. However – you know when you’re traveling, and you know you have to walk a lot, but also look presentable? A boot will be your BFF. Do I need to say effortless chic again?
Bonus tip? The closer you get to fall, the more “fall” pieces you can add to your look. My outfit is a good example of this. Once we get closer to fall, I could swap my orange bag out for a black one, and I could throw on a leather jacket over my top.
About the shoes: My boots were provided by Sutro Footwear, a local Bay Area brand. The idea behind Sutro was to create a high quality and sustainable shoe that was also reasonably priced. I actually walked around in mine all day and stayed totally comfortable.
