From talking to friends and family, and reading posts on social media the problem isn’t that we can’t find things to do at home during social distancing. The problem is not being able to socialize and see our loved ones. So today’s blog post includes some social distancing tips for staying connected with your loved ones during these difficult times.
1. Plan a Movie Night
With the Netflix Party Chrome plugin, you can have a movie night and make sure everyone is watching the same scene at the same time. There is also a group chat feature if you don’t want to also be on FaceTime.
Check out this list of the 51 best movies to watch on Netflix right now.
2. Host a virtual book club
I’ve always wanted to be part of a book club.. Sit around with my favorite people, catch up on that week’s reading, drink coffee and eat pastries. We all now have a little more time on our hands (aka no commute and getting ready for work). Have a virtual book club with your squad! Set a weekly reading schedule, and sync up once a week with your tea and coffee and discuss.
Here is a list of the 20 best book club books for 2020 so far.
3. Have Happy Hour hour/ wine night
Used to having wine night with the girls? Or happy hour with your coworkers? There’s no reason to cancel just because you need to stay home! Crack open a bottle of wine, hop on a video call and snack on some cheese.
4. Take a workout class
You can find a work out video on Youtube and plan to all do the class at the same time. Wanting to support local businesses during this difficult time? Many yoga studios for example are offering virtual courses. You can even find free online courses as well.
5. Go grocery shopping
No, I’m not about to suggest you all plan to meet up at the grocery store as a social outing. Have an elderly person in your life? A friends with an autoimmune disease? Or someone that is sick and can’t go outside? The best way to show some love is by going to pick up some groceries and drop them off behind the door.
6. Write a letter
I love the idea of sending a postcard via snail mail. While you could do that, a safer option is to send an email. When was the last time you emailed someone to check how they were doing? It can be fun to get a surprise email!
7. Plan a coffee date
Similar to social distancing tips #3, if you’re not into the happy hour life, plan a coffee date. This is also a great option for catching up with coworkers. I actually do this (and did this before social distancing) as many people I work with are around the world. It can be nice to just schedule a meeting to catch up (and not talk about work).
8. Have a dinner party
Host a dinner party with your family at home and get dressed up. OR hop on that video call and plan for everyone to eat the same thing. You can order a pizza or make similar dishes. My boyfriend and I have done that quite a few times since we do long distance!
9. Do some baking
(Or pick up baked goods and deliver them behind the door). Shout out to my BFF who picked up scones for our entire friend group and delivered them behind the door.
If you’re looking for an actual activity, make cookies or cupcakes! You can even chat while you decorate.
10. Play some games
Lastly, there are quite a few apps that allow you to play real-time with your friends. I personally love Words with Friends, but here is a list of apps that allow you to play with friends.
