I recently took a road trip from San Jose, California up to YOLO County near Sacramento for a mother-daughter weekend into the countryside. (You can read about our guide to Winters, CA here.) As part of our trip, Toyota kindly hooked us up with the perfect road trip car – the Corolla XSE 2020. It featured GPS, satellite radio, blind spot sensors, and most importantly, gets 52 MPG. I love road trips so today I thought I’d share my 5 Road Trip Tips ft. Toyota.
1. Have a loose plan
When it comes to road trips, I am very loose on the planning. I do some research on a few stops from point A to point B, and pre-pick where I’ll be spending the night. Other than that, I keep the schedule open in case I drive by something interesting (a look out point, cool restaurant, etc.). Which leads to my next point…
2. Enjoy spontaneous stops
When you’re in a rush to get to your destination, it can be like tunnel vision. On a road trip I purposely take the driving slow in case I see something that I want to stop at. This is especially important if you’re interested in photography ( like me). You never know when you might pass by a cool vintage sign or photogenic spot.
3. Have your playlist ready
On this trip I was lucky enough to have satellite radio with lots of listening options. Regardless, I like to create a road trip playlist of fun songs to sing along or something upbeat. It helps get in driving mood!
4. Bring a tripod
Driving on your own or with a group? I always pack a tripod in the trunk of the car just in case we want some group shots! It’s really helpful for when you make one of those spontaneous stops.
5. Pack all the snacks
Lastly, would it be a road trip if it didn’t involve snacks? Pack up the car with your favorite snacks and drinks just in case you go miles without a food option.
