I recently had the opportunity to design my dream office space – also known as “Palm Trees & Pellegrino HQ.” The goal was to create a multi-purpose room; which would work as a content creation space, guest room & office all rolled into one. From a design perspective, I opted for a minimalist room decor featuring shades of gray, white, and beige. For this blog post I’ll be sharing the process for how I styled my office, and tips for decorating on a budget.
Start with some inspiration for minimalist room decor:

Before I even go shopping, I always start with Pinterest (and a Pinterest board) to get inspiration for my new space. You can find my minimalist decor board here. It helps give me ideas for what to look for and what design I want.
I also spend some time on Youtube getting DIY inspiration. If I’m being honest, I’m not much of a DIY-er, however it’s fun to see how to re-purpose different items.
A few Youtube channels I recommend taking a look at –
- TheSorryGirls – they have a “Thrift Flip” series that I love. Their projects tend to be a little more advanced but it’s still #inspo.
- XO, MaCenna – lots of thrifted DIYs that are pretty easy to follow!
Tips for Decorating as Renters:

As someone who has rented in different spots for the last 3 years, I’ve gone through the whole “nails in the wall, lose part of your deposit” situation. Which is why there are three items that will save your rental lives.
- Removable wallpaper – for when you have ugly painted walls or want a bit of a statement.
- Adhesive hooks – great for hanging plants or other small decor.
- Command strips – for hanging artwork.
First stops: The Thrift Store & the Dollar Store

The thrift store is my go-to first stop when it comes to items like –
- frames
- furniture (tables, chairs, coffee tables, etc.)
- baskets
- mirrors & other unique design elements
Why? More often than not, you’ll get a great deal on something that is much better quality than hitting Target or Ikea. You’ll also find more one-of-a-kind items.
The dollar store (think Dollar Tree or the 99 Cent Store) are my secret for everything storage and organization themed. Items I’ve picked up there before –
- Velvet hangers
- Drawer organizers
- Hooks
- Glassware
Also pro tip on the dollar store – I always walk through the aisles to see what’s new. I occasionally get floral decor and cute candles. So be sure to comb through!
Other Shopping Spots I like:

I also end up doing some shopping at HomeGoods, Marshall’s, IKEA and Amazon for other items I might need.
