Growing up in San Diego, I’ve had decades (literally) to find all the best spots for photos. Some of these spots are off the hidden path, while others are a little more common. For your convenience, it’s organized by neighborhood so you’re not going crazy mapping everything! Keep reading for my list of the 30 most Instagrammable spots in San Diego.
Most Instagrammable Spots in La Jolla
La Jolla is known as “the Jewel of San Diego.” Mainly because of the gorgeous coastline, seals you can see in the wild, and fine dining experiences. I previously published an entire Instagram Guide in La Jolla which you can find here. (I’m sharing a few of my favorites below)
Instagrammable San Diego #1: Murals of La Jolla
This colorful wall is part of the Murals of La Jolla project. It’s by far my favorite installation, but if you have some time check out the others!
- Location: 7596 Eads Ave
- Pro Tip: This is actually a parking lot, so head there early to avoid having a car blocking your photo spot!
Instagrammable San Diego #2: Scripps Pier
I love parking at the La Jolla Shores and walking to the Scripps Pier. It makes for such a nice walk.

- Pro Tip: Visit during low tide!
Instagrammable San Diego #3: Trilogy Sanctuary
Trilogy Sanctuary is a local hotspot. Why? Maybe because it’s hidden from the main street. Pop over for a yoga class, to do some boho shopping, or to grab a vegan meal (and coffee) on their rooftop.
- Location: Rooftop & Level 3, 7650 Girard Ave Suite 400
- Pro Tip: Catch a class and grab some breakfast after.
Most Instagrammable Places in Pacific Beach & Mission Beach
Pacific Beach and Mission Beach are known as party central. But really, the area attracts people of all ages and isn’t just made up of bars and beach. You’ll also find some great restaurants and fun murals!
Instagrammable San Diego #4: Turquoise Street Pastel Mural
This gorgeous pastel wall has three different designs. It’s so bright and vibrant and makes for the perfect “most Instagrammable places in San Diego” contender.
- Location: 865 Turquoise St. (Next to Chronic Smoothie)
- Pro Tip: Located in a parking lot so get there early!
Instagrammable San Diego #5: Grounds Bean Bar
Grounds Bean Bar has at least 5 Instagrammable corners between this fun wall, their mural outside, and their other seating areas. It’s actually part of a much larger list of San Diego’s Most Instagrammable Coffee Shops below.
- Location: 1571 La Playa Ave, San Diego, CA 92109
- Pro Tip: The cold brew is a must!
Instagrammable San Diego #6: Cass Street Bar & Grill
The mural outside of Cass St. Bar & Grill gives me total Stranger Things vibes. I love the vintage style!

- Pro Tip: Order a chicken baguette and draft beer in this locals only spot.
Instagrammable San Diego #7: Rum Jungle
Rum Jungle is an acai shop located steps from Mission Beach. They’re most famous for their acai bowls served in half a pineapple.
- Location: 4150 Mission Blvd UNIT 153, San Diego, CA 92109
- Pro Tip: Grab a bunch of napkins and trek to the beach to get that typical “SoCal” shot. Just be speedy since you could end up with melted acai all over your hands.
Instagrammable San Diego #8: Green Gardens Nursery
I especially love the Green Gardens Nursery during the holidays as it is a mini Winter wonderland. It’s still gorgeous throughout the year and a great spot to pick up a gift.

Instagrammable San Diego #9: Oscar’s Mexican Seafood
I am a sucker for bright colored walls. I also love the vintage California “taco shop sign” and overall feel. Of course, don’t forget to order a taco from Oscar’s Mexican Seafood!

- Pro Tip: Try the classic battered fish taco
Most Instagrammable Places in Downtown San Diego (& Surrounding Areas)
Downtown San Diego is made up of quite a few smaller neighborhoods such as Banker’s Hill, Little Italy, and East Village. It is also home to the famous Balboa Park.
Instagrammable San Diego #10: Smile you’re in San Diego Mural
This mural is a fun “tourist attraction” without being too touristy.
- Location: 109 W C St, San Diego, CA 92101
- Pro Tip: You might be getting tired of me reminding you to go early or during off hours to these parking lots. Your best bet is going early on a weekend as many commuters park in that lot during the week.
Instagrammable San Diego #11: Morning Glory
Morning Glory was the talk of the town when they opened as the decor is reminiscent of a Great Gatsby party. Fun fact: it’s not just a nice ambiance, the food is delicious too!

- Pro Tip: Order the souffle pancakes or visit for afternoon tea.

Instagrammable San Diego #12: Cloak & Petal
Cloak & Petal in Little Italy is a Japanese tapas restaurant known for their modern Japanese inspired decor. It’s especially great for date night (and made our list for the Best Dinner Date Night Ideas in San Diego). But, if you’re going for the ‘gram, try visiting for lunch for better lighting.

- Pro Tip: Order the Australian Wagyu Lettuce Cups & the Japanese Cotton Cheesecake
Instagrammable San Diego #13: Breakfast Company SD
Breakfast Company SD is every brunch squad’s dream with pink accents and neon signs all over the restaurant.
- Location: 551 J Street, San Diego, CA 92101
- Pro Tip: Try the mashed potato waffle & churro french toast
Instagrammable San Diego #14: East Village Murals
If you take a wall around East Village, you’ll find a variety of murals. I especially love the one outside of Genteel Coffee (pictured above). Be sure to also check out the Ladies Who Paint mural walk while in the area.

- Pro Tip: There is also a mural hidden inside Genteel that you shouldn’t miss. And of course, order a cup of coffee.
Instagrammable San Diego #15: Quartyard
Quartyard can be considered the heart of East Village. They host a variety of events. On weekends be sure to check out their food, beer & coffee trucks.

Instagrammable San Diego #16: Devil’s Dozen
Devil’s Dozen is another one of those spots that you might miss if you don’t know about it. Located next door to the popular bar & lounge Kettner Exchange, this donut shop sells out by 11 AM daily. However, don’t be fooled by the little walk up window. Be sure to climb up the stairs to the most beautiful and eclectic space!

- Pro Tip: Can’t get a donut? That’s okay because the coffee is a MUST. It’s reasonably priced and delicious.
Instagrammable San Diego #17: Art Deco Building in Banker’s Hill
One day I happened to be searching for a Miami-inspired art deco building and happened across this cool spot. It’s not very “San Diego” but totally worth a photo.

Balboa Park should have its own article for photo spots since there are so many. A few of my favorites include:

Instagrammable San Diego #19: Coral Tree Tea House
Coral Tree Tea House is located in the historic Old Town. Their afternoon tea service is very authentic and you’ll sit in a historic San Diego home.

- Pro Tip: Make your reservation a few weeks in advance.
Most Instagrammable Places in North Park
North Park is one of San Diego’s trendiest neighborhoods. Here you’ll find hipster bars, unique shops, and up and coming restaurants.
Instagrammable San Diego #20: Pigment
Pigment isn’t only extremely Instagrammable – from the mountain of succulents, to the ombre pink wall outside, to the egg chairs – there’s a lot to photograph. Not to mention they have the cutest shop, which is a great spot to bring your friends a little San Diego souvenir.

Instagrammable San Diego #22: Holy Matcha
Holy Matcha feels pulled out of Soho in New York or a Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. Here you’ll find everything pink and everything matcha!

- Pro Tip: Go right when they open to get the restaurant to yourself!
Instagrammable San Diego #23: Communal Coffee
Communal Coffee is a flower shop meets gift shop meets coffee shop. Pick up a fresh bouquet of flowers, grab a coffee, and sit on their outdoor patio.

Most Instagrammable Places in Hillcrest
Hillcrest is the heart of the LGBT community and is buzzy with fun bars, restaurants, and shops.
Instagrammable San Diego #24: Spruce Street Suspension Bridge
The Spruce Street Suspension Bridge is hidden in a residential neighborhood on the edge of Hillcrest near the San Diego Zoo. It was built in 1912 and is one of San Diego’s hidden spots.

- Pro tip: try to visit in the late afternoon or early morning to get a chance to take pictures on the empty bridge and not get hit with too much sunlight.
Instagrammable San Diego #25: Before I Die Wall
Quite a few cities now have a “Before I Die” wall, but if you find yourself on University Ave, it’s worth making a note of one of your dreams (which taking a picture of it).

Instagrammable San Diego #26: Better Buzz Coffee Hillcrest HQ
The Better Buzz HQ location is huge with ample seating, friendly staff, and aesthetic decor. Be sure to walk around the location as there are some fun hidden design elements.

- Pro Tip: Try the rose water latte for a unique option. Also, parking can get crazy so be aware!
Most Instagrammable Places in South Park
This small neighborhood recently started to become more well-known. It may not be very big, but it’s home to some amazing restaurants and eclectic shops.

Another one of Communal Coffee’s locations, their airstream is perfect for sitting outside during the summer and catching up with friends.

Instagrammable San Diego #28: Café Madeleine
This French-inspired cafe not only looks like Paris but tastes like it! Everything tastes delicious but I love Café Madeleine‘s the pain au chocolat & the crepes.

Most Instagrammable Places North of San Diego
North of San Diego there are a few cities that deserve their own guides like Del Mar and Carlsbad. However, here are a few spots to visit!
Instagrammable San Diego #29: Carlsbad Flower Fields
The Carlsbad Flower Fields open yearly March 1 – May 1st. Spend a couple of hours exploring the fields before hitting the outlet next door.

Instagrammable San Diego #30: Flower Child Del Mar
Flower Child, the healthy restaurant chain’s Del Mar location is all about aesthetics and good food. This “Good Goes Around” mural is one of their many cute corners.
