Want a break from the traditional dinner setting in San Diego? Try Dinner With A View, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience! This pop-up restaurant offers guests a three-course celebrity Chef prepared meal inside a terrarium. The company currently has sites in Vancouver, and will have pop-up dinners in Chicago and Washington by the fall of 2020.
About the Pop-Up
San Diego’s domes were set up in Liberty Station, which is a “mixed-use development” near the Point Loma neighborhood. There were three reservation times: 5:30PM, 7:30PM, and 9:30PM. While you can choose your seating time, you’re not able to choose the location of your dome. If we had been able to reserve our spot, then we would have picked one of the domes in the middle of the location because ours had a view of the fenced area where the food was being plated.
The Menu
The menu offers a meat, fish, and vegan option. Each pop-up has a celebrity Chef create the menu using locally sourced ingredients. Chef Claudette Zapeda prepared our meal and used flavorful and locally sourced ingredients, and sites her inspiration from “the flavors of Mexico”. We dined on citrusy salads, chicken in a zesty sauce, and a honeycomb-shaped cake. In general, the meal was enjoyable, but the price seemed steep at $109.99 per guest.
Overall Experience
The draw of the event is the Instagrammability factor. On their page, you can see brilliant shots that showcase the domes in snow covered banks, or at the base of a colossal Ferris wheel. If Dinner With A View returned to San Diego, then I would attend again if they were located elsewhere – California’s picturesque ocean views would make a great backdrop to highlight a very creative and unique experience.
