I came across the Midway ice castles while perusing Instagram one day. I filed the spot away, hoping to eventually visit this spot if I was ever in the area. Well, this year was finally my chance! Less than an hour outside Salt Lake City you can discover the Midway Ice Castles, one of the most magical and Instagrammable experiences in Utah!
About the Ice Castles in Utah
The Midway Ice Castles are built using hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists. The experience includes frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains and more.
- Location: 700 Homestead Drive, Midway, UT 84049
- Admission: $13.99 on weekdays, $19.99 on weekends ($9.99 and $12.99 for children).
Tips for visiting
- Wear boots – The area around the castles is VERY slushy, so wear appropriate shoes! If you’re planning a photoshoot, consider wearing rain or snow boots into the attraction and changing shoes when you reach a spot to shoot at.
- Get there early & book a ticket for right when they open – The Ice Castles are a popular attraction (for a good reason!) so book a ticket for right when they open to avoid crowds.
- Go during the week – For cheaper ticket prices and even less crowds, go during the week.
- Stay as long as you want – There is no time limit for how long you can stay at the Ice Castles. There are public restrooms on site and you can also purchase beverages and snacks to refuel.
- Book a VIP experience – For a special occasion like a proposal or birthday party, consider booking the VIP Arctic Cove package to access a part of the Ice Castles roped off from the general public.
Other things to check out while you’re in the area:
Heber Valley Artisan Cheese – The nearby Heber Valley Artisan Cheese is worth a stop on your way back to Salt Lake City.
Cafe Galleria – Cafe Galleria has it all: private Alpenglobes for outdoor dining, live music, and a delicious menu. Make sure to book 3-4 weeks in advance!
