Welcome to my new series where after almost a decade, my fiancé and I are finally moving into our own home! One of the most exciting parts of having our own little nook is decorating. In today’s article, I’m sharing 3 tips for how to create a gallery wall with Desenio.
About Desenio
Desenio focuses on trendy and stylish wall art (and accessories) that are easily accessible. That means you can have a luxurious look without that luxurious price tag! They also have thousands of pieces from vintage photographs to new up-and-coming artists.
For my “Eclectic Mediterranean” home office, I was looking for vivid and abstract art that popped off the wall. I’ve always loved the look of gallery walls, but it can feel tough to actually put one together. Desenio’s new Gallery Wall Tool allows you to try various art, frames, and sizes in a virtual gallery wall space to find the perfect combo! From there, you can click “add to cart” without having to hunt down each item on the website.
Gallery Wall Tips #1: Pick a cornerstone piece & a cohesive color palette
The piece that really spoke to me for my home office was “LA POIRE – GREEN COAT POSTER” (The girl in the green dress). Something about it really resonated with me and from there I worked to find varying designs with complementary colors. If you notice my inspiration gallery wall, there are shades of muted green, pink/red, and oranges.
P.S. When styling your gallery wall in your space, it can be helpful to also have a cornerstone piece of furniture/decor. For me, my rug had all the colors that I wanted to play with in the art.
Gallery Wall Tips #2: Mix Up your Shapes, Sizes & Materials
If you’re aiming for an effortless look, having a mix of frame types, art orientation, and sizes is a must. Don’t be afraid to mix gold frames with black or white! Play with smaller pieces of art and huge ones.
This is where the Gallery Wall Art Tool comes in handy – you can hand-select various frames and sizes. Desenio will show you how it looks and you can swap out elements that don’t work for you. As a visual person, this was a game-changer for me!
Gallery Wall Tips #3: Use blue tape to measure the space on your wall
Once all your artwork arrives, the exciting (and not so exciting) part is hanging it up. While I tend to just pick a spot and stick a nail in the wall, if you’re looking for precision, blue tape is so helpful. You can measure each piece and ensure the spacing is even.
