We’re getting extra close to Christmas, and consequently, I knew I had to make it up to the city to check out all the holiday cheer. I grew up in San Diego, the land of palm trees (and lack of Christmas spirit in my opinion). Coming to San Francisco almost feels like visiting the North Pole and I love every second of it. Looking for a way to spend the day in the city? Below are some ideas to #GetFestive
1 ) VISIT THE UNION SQUARE CHRISTMAS TREE
Even when I wasn’t living in the Bay Area, I loved coming up here during the holidays to see the Union Square tree. I always thought it was so magical and festive. Hint: not much has changed in the last 10 years! You can also go ice skating .
Pro tip: Go early to avoid the crowds and get your typical Christmas photo! I also like to pair a trip to the tree with some shopping, since why not, you’re in the neighborhood!
2 ) HIGH TEA AT THE ROTUNDA AT NEIMAN MARCUS
You know I’m a lover of high tea, and I did in fact visit the Rotunda for a little birthday celebration with my mom last year. I just think that if you’re going to go, why not go when their 40ft tree is up? It’s absolutely stunning against the Rotunda stained glass.
3 ) GRAB HOT CHOCOLATE AT WINTERWALK SF
Down the street from the Union Square Christmas tree is the “WinterWalk SF” all of December. It’s located in between Neiman Marcus & Macy’s and features food trucks, games, and more! It’s a nice spot to stop for some hot chocolate, or a snack in between your Christmas activities.
4 ) CHECK OUT THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE AT THE FAIRMONT
The Fairmont is to San Francisco as the Plaza is to New York City. Each year they build a *real* 25 ft gingerbread house that is hiding behind their gorgeous tree in the lobby. People sit in the lobby sipping on champagne from the Chandon bar set up in the corner, and the atmosphere reminds me of Eloise at the Plaza. You can pop in to take a few pictures, and if you feel like splurging, they have a wonderful Gingerbread Holiday Tea Service.
