Growing up I took all the Christmas decor in our house for granted – there were Santa’s ornaments, and wreaths galore. All I knew was that the day after Thanksgiving, boxes would come out of storage spilling with Christmas cheer. Moving out on my own meant starting from scratch. As a Millennial (supposedly we’re a group that moves around a lot), I don’t have the space to start hoarding Christmas decorations, yet I LOVE CHRISTMAS. So here’s the big question – How can you be festive but minimalist?
Today we’re working with Tree Classics (you may know them for their extremely real looking artificial trees) to share with you how I decorated for Christmas in my new apartment! PS. Fun Fact, see the teddy bear featured in the photos? He’s representative of Mr. Bear, the bear that used to accompany me everywhere (and had his own tea cup) for afternoon tea, especially at Christmas.
5 Christmas Things You Need In Your First Apartment
1 ) THE TREE
I take my trees very seriously. I love having a real tree, but the clean up, delivery, maintenance, etc. etc. is too much for me. So I opted for the artificial option, plus it’s better for the environment! Also – the fact that this one looks real gets serious points in my book!

2 ) HIGH QUALITY & UNIQUE ORNAMENTS
Ornaments are items you can keep and reuse year after year. For my main tree (I’m a little extra and have two), I like to focus on higher quality classic ornaments. The ornaments I selected reminded me of the ones my Grandma had when I was growing up – so very red & green and completely vintage. For a secondary tree, that’s where I might go for something more whimsical and “one-time use only.”

3 ) TREE SKIRT
Some people might say you don’t need a Christmas tree skirt. Well I say, if you have an artificial tree then you BETTER have one. You need something to hide the metal feet, and in general it completely elevates your whole decor look. I chose a skirt that nicely completes the rest of my deco, and adds a pop of glam.

4 ) EXTRA LIGHTS
When in doubt, add more lights! Lights are an inexpensive way to spruce up a space. I added strings of lights on my banisters and all all over my apartment. It looks so festive!
5 ) WREATH
The last piece to complete your holiday look? A wreath of course. I love seeing my wreath every time I go to open my door. It also lets guests know that we’re Christmas central over here!
