Let’s talk about flower power. I am sucker for a field of flowers. (The real question though is who isn’t?!) As I travel through California, I’m always on the hunt for a fabulous flower field. Whether it’s a farm off to the side of the road or a more well-known place, I’ve been slowly checking spots off my list. This list will be ever growing as I find more spots! Keep reading for the best flower fields in California.
Sunflower fields in California
Let’s start with my personal favorite flower: the sunflower! From NorCal to SoCal you can find some.
Sunflower fields in Davis, California – Summer
The areas of Dixon and Davis in Northern California near Sacramento might be the most well-known in the state. Farms in this area are some of the biggest producers in the entire country.
- Season: Summer (July – August)
- Locations: Farms around Dixon & Davis
- What to know: All of these farms are on private property. In recent years visits to the area have become very popular and has resulted in lots of trash and destruction of property. Connect with a farmer or take photos from the side of the road if you don’t have permission!

Sunflower fields in Half Moon Bay – Fall
A visit to Andreotti’s Family Farm was one of my favorite fall activities while living in the Bay Area. This family-run multi-generation farm was so welcoming. It’s also one of the most beautiful that I’ve seen and you can u-pick your own!
- Season: Fall (usually sometime between end of August – end of September)
- Location: 800 Cabrillo HWY North, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019
- Pro Tip: Go early in the season as they tend to get picked very quickly. Also, please note: they did have a major fire in February 2020 that may impact this year’s crop. Follow them on Instagram to stay up to date.

Sunflower fields in San Diego – Spring & Fall
After much research, I was able to find two sunflower fields in San Diego. They’re both hidden gems and not very well-known!
- Season: September – November
- Location: 13421 Highland Valley Rd, San Diego, CA 92128
- Pro Tip: Call in advance of your visit as the opening of the flowers can vary. You can also pick your own sunflowers!
- Season: Spring (March – April)
- Location: 1050 Cannon Rd, Carlsbad, CA 92008
- Pro Tip: This flower field is technically a sunflower maze, but it’s still fun to visit! It’s not particularly advertised, but is a fun activity to do in conjunction with a visit to pick strawberries.

Almond Blossoms in California – Spring
The year I visited the almond blossoms, I almost missed them! It was near the end of the season and it had just rained. I happened to find one lonely grove off a dirt road. There are two areas where you can find the almond blossoms – Winters (near Sacramento) and Bakersfield (east of Santa Barbara).
Woodland & Winters Almond Blossoms
- Season: Spring (end of February – March)
- Location: There are plenty of fields if you drive around Woodland & Winters.
- Pro Tip: Similar to the Davis sunflower fields, all of these farms are on private property. Plan to either take photos from the side of the road or request permission from the owner.

Bakersfield Almond Blossoms
- Season: Spring (end of February – March)
- Location: A few spots include Panama Lane (near the 5 Freeway) and the end of Coffee Road.
- Pro Tip: We have a theme here with private property! Same goes as the other spots. You know the drill 🙂
Lavender Fields in California – Spring & Summer
Lavender fields always remind me of growing up in the South of France. The smell of a little lavender pack makes all the memories come back! Below are a few spots you can find lavender fields in California:
Lavender Fields in Cherry Valley at 123 Farm
- Season: May – August
- Location: 10600 Highland Springs Ave, Cherry Valley, CA 92223
- Pro Tip: A visit here makes for the perfect afternoon activity. Go through a walk in the lavender fields and enjoy lunch at their cafe. Learn more about their lavender festival here.
Lavender Fields outside of Dixon at Araceli Farms
- Season: May – June
- Location: 7389 Pitt School Rd, Dixon, CA 95620
- Pro Tip: Book your appointment in advance as visits are by appointment only. Also, make sure you’re prepared for all the bees bumbling about!
Ranuculus Fields in San Diego – Spring
Next up we have one of my favorites and arguably the best flower fields in California. I feel so much nostalgia when it comes to the Carlsbad Flower Fields. I remember going as a child when it wasn’t as much of an attraction as it is now. However, it’s grown into basically an amusement park (in the best way possible) and there’s something for everyone in the family!
- Season: Spring (March – May)
- Location: 5704 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008
- Pro Tip: If you want photos with all the flowers in bloom, plan to go at the end of the season (right before Mother’s Day). Also, it gets super crowded on weekends so visit during the week if yo can!

Wild Flowers in California – Spring
Mustard flowers can be found all across California in the spring. They tend to pop up in some of the most unexpected places (like the side of the freeway). To find them, I personally like to drive around more rural areas that have a lot of open land to find a spot!

Poppy Fields in California – Spring
There is nothing more beautiful in California than the superbloom. The biggest tip I can give is that when it’s a superbloom year, jump in the car and go visit because every year is different! The best place to find poppies is in Lancaster in the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve State Natural Reserve.
- Season: Spring (March – April)
- Location: 15101 Lancaster Rd, Lancaster, CA 93536
- Pro Tip: Before hopping in the car to visit, scope out social media to see what the area looks like in realtime. You don’t want to drive all the way there only to find that there are no flowers!
