I first discovered the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco while researching Bay Area flea markets (for this article). I was surprised to find a quaint little old world neighborhood. Something about the neighborhood coffee shop, bright colored homes, and the unique shops drew me in. Looking for things to do in San Francisco? Planning a day trip to the city? Start with Coffee at Pinhole Coffee
Pinhole Coffee is everything I love about a neighborhood coffee shops. You’re surrounded by Bernal Heights locals while the smell of coffee wafts out the door. I loved the oat milk latte, and the croissant was a solid choice too!

Go Shopping at the Alemany Flea Market
If you happen to be in the area on a Sunday, the Alemany Flea Market is an absolute must. It might look rough around the edges, but there are definite deals to be had. Chat with the vendors and pick up an antique or two. I found the most gorgeous vintage mirror for $10 on my last visit!

Pick up a plant at Succulence
Would you believe that I’ve had Succulence on my to-visit list since moving to the Bay Area two years ago? That “U Sexy” sign is a must for the Instagram. Don’t forget to pick up a plant for your collection while there! PS – this place is also perfect for picking up a small gift as they also sell local items like candles and jewelry.

Take photos in front of the Instagrammable Houses
Drive around Bernal Heights Park to find plenty of adorable Instagrammable houses. I love this one on the downhill of Folsom Street!
- Location: Downhill of Folsom St. heading away from the Bernal Heights Park
Hike up to the Bernal Heights Swing
It’s a bit of a hike to get to the Bernal Heights Swing, but the view is 100% worth it. The area has plenty of parking (even on a sunny Saturday afternoon). The main attraction is the swing, but make sure to stop and enjoy the view on the way up.
- Location: Bernal Heights Park
Take a Ramen Making Class
This Airbnb Experience is so fun and unique. I took my boyfriend here for a date and really enjoyed making everything from scratch and learning about the art of ramen from a Japanese chef.
