One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try different famous locations for afternoon tea. So far on my list I’ve checked off tea in Hong Kong, San Francisco, and Buenos Aires. A couple of hours after landing in Paris, I headed to the well-known Four Seasons Georges V Hotel off of the Ave. des Champs-Élysées for afternoon tea.
ABOUT THE GEORGES V
The Georges V, built in 1928, is managed by the Four Seasons. It is considered one of the most prestigious hotels in Paris. Not only are they known for their grand decor, but for the creations of Michelin-rated chef Christian Le Squer.
AFTERNOON TEA IN LA GALERIE
Afternoon tea is served on fine china in the Galerie. The Galerie features a pianist, views of the courtyard, and antiques. The decor feels antique with a modern twist.
The Menu: You can find the menu here. The prix fixe tea service ranges from 50-70 euros. Not feeling too hungry? You can order a la carte off the menu.
Hours: Tea service occurs everyday from 3-6PM. In the summer, La Galerie serves lunch, cocktails and dinner in the courtyard from 12:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
What to Wear: Dress code is smart casual, so I would recommend dressing up because why not?! You can get away with some dark jeans and a nice top, or opt for a more dressy look, like what I wore below.
OVERALL OPINIONS
The Decor: Personally, I love having afternoon tea at hotels that have more of a history and a story. While I appreciated the glamour of the Georges V, the modern take left me wanting something a little more rich and antique. I loved all the fresh flowers all over the hotel – the orchid wall was of course my favorite element!
The Food: The tea tower featured a twist on the classics. Instead of the typical tea sandwiches, the base was made of bite sized savory treats. I also liked that each person received 4 desserts inspired by each of the the four seasons. The portions felt quite sizeable and left me feeling full at the end.
