I love fall. I don’t know about you, but I live for the clean brisk days and knit sweaters. Shocker considering I grew up less than a mile away from the beach. One of the things I’ve never been good at however is dealing with the transition between seasons. When it’s too cold for summer and too hot for winter. Raise your hand if you’ve been in the same boat.
Today’s look does exactly that – it’s the point at which fall and summer meet. How do you transition your closet? Let’s get to it.
1 ) It’s all about the layers
I have been LOVING midis lately. Especially for the summer to fall transition. They’re great on a hot day, but also a good option when it’s a little chilly. That’s where the layers come in. I layered this fur-lined leather jacket over my dress to bring some fall into the picture and keep me warm. You could also consider a nice silk scarf for that transition (they’re light but warm).
2 ) Don’t be afraid to incorporate color
“Quetzal Green” as fashionistas are calling it is very on trend for fall/winter 2018. (You can see the full list of colors here) I think one of the best ways to transition is to actually wear some color. I like to save the rich oranges and browns for actually fall. For transition time, I like to do something a little more rich and fun. Some of my current favorites? Pastels, and mustard.
3 ) Accessorize Carefully
I decided to accessorize this look with visibly wintery/ fall items – think black and gold. The accessories are where you can (and should) give a nod to the fall. Had I thrown on a jean jacket, sandals, and straw hat; it would have been summer 100%. These little elements are what made it more transition appropriate.
Pro tip: I like to remember the following formula: summer attire + fall accessories = transition clothing . If you do the flipped version (Think chunky sweater and sandals, it might look a little weird.)
