Fun fact: I spent a couple of years in France when I was growing up, and since then, I always feel a sense of comfort whenever I’m there (or in a French cafe). San Diego is surprisingly filled with little pockets of French culture. Check out our article below for 5 San Diego cafes that will make you feel like you’re in France.
San Diego Cafe #1: Cafe Madeleine
The most traditional of the bunch, Cafe Madeleine in South Park really feels like it was plucked from the streets of Paris. From the tables and chairs to the building’s architecture, it’s all incredibly Parisian. Stop by for a classic crepe or café au lait.
- Neighborhood: South Park
- Location: 2248 30th St, San Diego, CA 92104
- Hours: Mon – Thurs 7AM – 4PM, Fri – Sun 7AM – 5PM

- Order the: Crepe

San Diego Cafe #2: Little Frenchie
Located in the heart of Coronado, Little Frenchie is a modern take on a French bistro. You’ll still find those traditional chairs we all know and love, but expect a more elevated bistro vibe. From brunch on the weekends to a variety of wines and cheeses, this can also be an evening hang-out spot.
- Neighborhood: Coronado
- Location: 1166 Orange Ave, Coronado, CA 92118
- Hours: Mon – Thurs 11AM – 8PM, Fri – Sun 9AM – 8:30PM
- Note: Brunch is only served 9AM – 3PM Fri-Sun
- Order the: Quiche
San Diego Cafe #3: Parisien Gourmandises
I talk a lot about “hidden gems” in San Diego, but Parisien Gourmandises is truly one of them. It’s tucked in the back of the most adorable boutique/flower shop and the vibe can be considered a Parisian-inspired Instagram lover’s dream. The only downside is they’re closed on the weekends (and sell out very quickly on Fridays). But the pastries are absolutely scrumptious!
- Neighborhood: La Jolla
- Location: 7643 Girard Ave, La Jolla, CA 92037 (inside Floral Palette)
- Hours: Mon – Thurs 9AM – 5:30PM, Fri 9AM – 4:30PM, Closed Sat – Sun
- Note: There is also cute outdoor seating
- Order the: Pink lady & cheesecake

San Diego Cafe #4: The French Gourmet
The French Gourmet, with its Southern France ambiance (think yellow & blue) is a staple in the San Diego community. They’ve been open since 1979 and my family has been getting pastries there for at least 20 years! You can grab everything from pastries to chilled/warm dishes for lunch and dinner.
- Neighborhood: Pacific Beach
- Location: 960 Turquoise St, San Diego, CA 92109
- Hours: Mon – Tues 7AM – 6PM, Wed – Sun 7AM – 8PM
- Order the: Fruit tarts

San Diego Cafe #5: Le Parfait Paris
Le Parfait Paris has slowly taken over San Diego with its award-winning pastries! The ambiance is a modern take on a Parisian bakery with cement floors and marble tables. While they have locations all over the city, the Gaslamp location is the cutest (in my opinion).
- Neighborhood: Gaslamp
- Location: 555 G St, San Diego, CA 92101
- Hours: Sun – Wed 8AM – 9PM, Thurs – Sat 8AM – 10PM
- Order the: Quiche & macarons
