We took a small hiatus from our monthly restaurant article, but it’s hard to keep up with all the fun spots coming to San Diego! Keep reading for 5 trendy new San Diego restaurants to try this month!
Mission Hills: Cardellino
Located in Mission Hills, Cardellino (the Italian word for Goldfinch) is the latest concept from the Trust Restaurant Group. This Italian-American eatery wears many hats – from being a bakery, to an all day eatery, to a dinner spot – there’s something for everyone! It really feels like the neighborhood eatery that brings everyone together.
- Neighborhood: Mission Hills
- Address: 4033 Goldfinch St, San Diego, CA 92103
- Hours: W-F 4PM-9PM, S-S 9AM-9PM
- Our Order: margherita pizza, arancini, fig & goat cheese crostini, tiramisu
- Pro Tip: Go for happy hour (a great deal) and end the evening with some ice cream next door!
Downtown San Diego: Salvatore’s Cucina & Lounge
Next up on our trendy new San Diego restaurants list is Salvatore’s. If you’re a San Diego local, you’ve probably heard of Salvatore’s. The traditional Italian has reopened under new management and a whole new vibe. This restaurant is a spin on Italian cuisine with a California/Baja vibe. Everything is absolutely instagrammable and you can expect fun drinks with smoke coming out of them, a speakeasy in the back, and a DJ on the weekends.
- Neighborhood: Downtown San Diego
- Address: 750 Front St, San Diego, CA 92101
- Hours: TUES-SUN 3PM-11PM
- Our Order: “Golden Hill” cocktail, “Meridian” cocktail, Valdivia Farms baby tomatoes, broccolini, spicy salumi pizza, 8oz hangar steak
- Pro Tip: Another great happy hour spot, this is perfect for pre or post dinner drinks and appetizers.
Little Italy: Camino Riviera
We have to hand it to the SDCM Restaurant Group. While many trendy new San Diego restaurants are popping up left and right, not many have the same appeal as Camino Riviera. This Mexican Riviera Maya inspired restaurant makes you feel like you’re actually in Tulum from the decor to the cuisine.
- Neighborhood: Little Italy
- Address: 2400 India St, San Diego, CA 92101
- Hours: W-SAT 5PM-10PM
- Our Order: Creamed yucca, pork “quesa birria” bao, heirloom tomato tart, “sacred leaf” and “mayan underground” cocktails
- Pro Tip: 1) you must order the creamed yucca, you’ll thank us later. 2) for true Tulum vibes, opt to sit outside!
Del Mar: Monarch Ocean Pub
This hippity hoppity place is exactly what Del Mar needed. Not only is it great for diners of all ages, it’s the perfect spot for catching up with friends, playing field games, watching a game, or listening to live music. We’re calling it now – it’s the new heart of Del Mar!
- Neighborhood: Del Mar
- Address: 1555 Camino Del Mar Suite 322, Del Mar, CA 92014
- Hours: M-SAT 11AM-10PM, SUN 9AM-10PM
- Our Order: Farmer’s Salad, Applewood Bacon Burger
- Pro Tip: Go during off hours to avoid the wait.
La Mesa: Pink Rose Cafe
The Pink Rose Cafe feels like it was dropped off in La Mesa from London. The all pink and roses everywhere is very reminiscent of Peggy Porschen’s cupcake spot in London (if you’ve spent any time on Instagram you’ll probably seen it). This is a fun spot to check out with the squad and take a few fun pics!
- Neighborhood: La Mesa
- Address: 8209 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942
- Hours: MON-THURS 7AM-6PM, FRI-SAT 7AM-8PM, SUN 8AM-4PM
- Our Order: Cappuccino, birthday scone
- Pro Tip: Go right when they open in the morning to get good photos and a good spot. It can get pretty packed.
