One of my favorite seasons of the year is spring. Nothing says spring like a galavant through a flower field! In fact, whenever I move to a new city, I’m always on the hunt for the flower fields. Whether it’s one that is well known like the Carlsbad Flower Fields in Southern California, or it’s a random field of wild flowers, there’s so much fun to be had! There are so many pose ideas – keep reading for 8 flower field photoshoot ideas to try this spring!
Flower Field Photoshoot Ideas #1: Use a hat and look away from the camera
“Hat” and “flower field” should be synonyms. Other than automatically making a photo scream wanderlust, the hat has another purpose. If you’re shooting in harsh sunlight, turning away from the camera with a hat on allows you to capture a really cool shot.
Flower Field Photoshoot Ideas #2: Grab bae or a friend’s) hand toward the camera
Fun fact: In this photo, I was holding the hand of my photographer friend Julie. You want to get pretty close to the photographer to capture this shot so you can play with the focus. You can also recreate it with portrait mode on the iPhone if you don’t have a DSLR.
Flower Field Photoshoot Ideas #3: Use a large bouquet of flowers
We took these photos at the Carlsbad Flower Fields where you can buy bouquets of ranunculus. This seems obvious, but don’t pick the flowers directly in any field you’re visiting (LOL). I love that a big bunch creates some added dimension to the shot!
Flower Field Photoshoot Ideas #4: Dance in the field
When in doubt start spinning and dancing in the field! Bonus points if you have a flowy dress to play with. This pose I actually did in a sunflower maze, which gave me enough room to move around. If you’re in a tight field be extra careful not to destroy the flowers!
Flower Field Photoshoot Ideas #5: Use a camera as a prop
You don’t have to use a camera (I happened to have this vintage one at home), but the more props the better. I find that carrying something makes the photos feel more fun and effortless. Looking for cool props? Check out your local thrift store for vintage finds.
Flower field photo shoot ideas #6: Close your eyes, smile, and face towards the sun
This is one of my favorite flower field photo pose ideas as it feels the most natural. There’s something about closing your eyes, facing up to the sun, and soaking up the heat that feels very “in the moment.”
Flower field photo shoot ideas #7: Use a prism to add dimension to the photos
We tried using a kaleidoscope for the first time (something like this) and it was so fun! If you edit the photo with a vintage-style filter as well, you can get a whole vintage camera vibe going.
Flower field photo shoot ideas #8: Pose with a friend
Posing with the BFF is another great option. You can actually use ideas 1-6 to try this out as the poses can be replicated with numerous people.
Flower field photo shoot ideas #8: Lay in the flowers
Major disclaimer for this one: do NOT destroy the flowers! We found a field of wildflowers and looked for a spot that had already been heavily damaged by people stepping on it. You never want to destroy the beauty of the flowers for a few photos!
